An individualized, neuro-affirming school experience

For Kayla, education has always been about the people, not programs, test scores, or checklists, but children.

Throughout her career, Kayla has worked with students from ages 3 through 18+ across public, charter, and private school settings, specializing in supporting children with diverse learning needs. A certified educator in both Texas and Virginia, she has served as a classroom teacher, special education coordinator, regional coach, district leader, and now Director of Education of our microschool. Her work has centered on helping students thrive by equipping educators, partnering with families, and building systems that provide meaningful, individualized support.

Kayla's journey began in a self-contained special education classroom, where she quickly learned that every child is capable of remarkable growth when they are truly seen, understood, and taught in ways that meet their individual needs. She later taught inclusive secondary English classrooms before moving into district and regional leadership, where she coached educators, strengthened instructional practices, and supported schools in improving outcomes for students with disabilities. Along the way, she helped schools earn state recognition, improve instructional quality, and create stronger systems of support for students and teachers alike.

As rewarding as that work was, it also revealed something that would shape the next chapter of her career.

Too often, incredible children were expected to fit into educational systems that were never designed with them in mind. Families were searching for a place where their children could be known beyond a test score, a diagnosis, or a label. In searching for a place where learning could be personalized, relationships could flourish, and every child could develop confidence alongside academic skills.

That belief became the foundation of this microschool.

Kayla co-founded this school to create the kind of learning environment she always envisioned: one where small class sizes allow every child to be deeply known, instruction is thoughtfully individualized, curiosity is encouraged, and families are valued as true partners in their child's education. Here, success is measured not only by academic achievement, but by growth, independence, confidence, resilience, and a genuine love of learning.

As Director of Education, Kayla is committed to ensuring that every student receives the support, challenge, and encouragement they need to reach their fullest potential. She believes education should inspire children to discover their strengths, embrace their individuality, and develop the skills they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

For Kayla, education was her first calling, and she never stopped answering. She considers it a privilege to walk alongside families during some of the most important years of their children's lives and is honored to help build a school community where every child is valued, every voice is heard, and every learner belongs.
